Well, I hope you have enjoyed the pictures and videos from the Living Museum.  Without a doubt, it was a huge success!  Thanks so much to Dr. Wiggins who allowed us to have it, to the parents who provided great costumes, and the students who worked so hard on their reports.  Most of all I'd like to say thanks to Sally Allen, my co-teacher, for sharing this idea!

Each student had to choose a famous American from the area of history, education, politics, sports, the arts, or entertainment, and bring resources to school about the famous person.  At school, we used the resources to plan and write a first person narrative about the famous American.

On the day of the Museum, each child dressed up in his or her costume and became a museum "exhibit" of the famous American. The Museum was held on the sidewalk around the school courtyard, and the exhibits were posed until a paw print on the ground in front of them was stepped on.  Once this happened, the exhibit would come to life and read the information they had written.  After reading, the exhibit would go back into a pose.

Parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends were invited to attend as well as the whole student body of A.E. Phillips.  This was a fun learning experience, and a great time was had by all!
